Friday night at SouthSide 313 was one marked by stellar musicianship, improvisation, and good vibes.
Hairy Dudini — the eclectic project of local multi-instrumentalist Josh Klein — welcomed Boston’s Background Orcs to South Bethlehem for an evening of music where funk, rock, reggae, and jazz all collided.
Watching these superb talents do their thing — whether it was watching the Dudini loop his way to creating a full-band sound, or seeing Background Orcs seamlessly move through ideas during their extended musical conversations — was truly a sight to behold. The two entities played separate sets before joining together at the end of the night, and were even joined briefly by singer-songwriter Neil Grover, whose song “Politics” was given a fresh and funky foundation during an extended jam that, at one point, seemed to sample Michael Jackson’s “Billie Jean.”
Here are a few shots we managed to get, highlighting this auditory joyride.
