The entertainment industry — and in particular, the music industry — has always had a reputation for living fast and dying young.

The “rock star” lifestyle has been well-documented — some might say glorified — in our culture and its various forms of media and entertainment through the decades. Not discussed as often, however, is the humanity of the individuals affected when the fun begins to end.

GQ contributor Chris Heath put together what I believe is an excellent and important piece, highlighting nine high-profile musicians who have all battled addiction at varying stages in their lives and careers. All of them have different stories, with the two common threads of addiction and, later, sobriety.
