In recent weeks, we (and virtually every other independent and major music outlet in existence) have kept you up to date on the historic Music Modernization Act, which promises sweeping and long-anticipated reforms for how musicians, publishers, and songwriters get paid for their work.
One of the rarest of rare events happened in Washington, DC: a unanimous Congressional approval of a large piece of legislation; an affirmative 100 – 0 vote in the Senate and a 415 – 0 vote in the House. On October 11, 2018, the Orrin G. Hatch–Bob Goodlatte Music Modernization Act was signed into law.
As reported by Billboard and many other media and music industry outlets, President Trump signed the Music Modernization Act into law today, accompanied by popular musicians and industry executives.
On Tuesday, the United States Senate passed the Music Modernization Act, in an effort to update music copyright laws to reflect modern digital technology and make it easier for creators to get paid for their work via streaming services.
