Review: The Hook’s Sad, Sweet Title Track
As the anticipation continues to grow for The Hook‘s full-length debut, “Moonshine & Honey,” the band has released the album’s title track — a cautionary tale of life not always going quite as planned.
“Moonshine & Honey” tells the story of a boy who climbed a tree expecting freedom, only to hit the ground after having the tree chopped down from underneath, with the repeated chorus of “Life ain’t always Moonshine & Honey” there to remind us that life’s unexpected turns aren’t always fortunate ones.
Sonically, the tune begins as a somber, ambient ballad that crescendos slowly over the course of five-and-a-half minutes, building into a steady rock and roll number with shifting dynamics, rich harmonies, and a sing-along melody.
The Hook’s “Moonshine & Honey” album will release on Monday, March 12. The following day, the band will be featured in LVU’s “Fig Voices” column in the Spring 2018 edition of Fig Bethlehem.
For now, let this latest taste of “Moonshine & Honey” hold you over below.
