Review: Ceramic Animal – Hit or Miss

Philly’s nasty boys Ceramic Animal are back with another taste of their upcoming sophomore album.

The band of (mostly) brothers — who will appear on the ticketed portion of SouthSide Arts and Music Festival alongside our 10 great, free performances from local acts  — have presented us with “Hit or Miss,” a lo-fi, midtempo tune dripping with a melancholy akin to Soul Asylum’s “Runaway Train,” while possessing a vintage rock and roll feel that recalls the genre’s early heyday.

The single is consistent with the creative steps forward Ceramic Animal intends to take on the follow-up to their debut album, “The Cart,” which has been streamed more than two million times on Spotify.

“We are proud of ‘The Cart’, but the next album will feel more cohesive, take some more risks,'” said Warren Regan, the band’s singer, guitarist, and principal songwriter. “We want to create a piece with staying power, an album that adds something to what’s already out there, you know?”
