Nashville-based artist Micah Butler simply needed her potent, soulful alto and some guitar layering to deliver the goods on her new single, “Waves.”

The new tune — which, according to Butler, was impressively recorded in bedrooms/closets/living rooms/bathrooms in five different houses over two years — creates a heavy mood using nothing more than Butler’s vocal instrument alongside carefully arranged, atmospheric guitar soundscapes. The stark, yet powerful tension is felt by the listener and amplified by expertly produced dynamic shifts.
