The creative lifestyle is not one for the nine-to-fiver. That goes for the person living it, as well as the people they hold dear.
Today’s Daily Spinn goes out to those people.
Way back, when UMC was but in its infancy and under a different name, we received a submission from Philly-area band The Wayside Shakeup for their single, “Stay Up.” The single highlights the strain that occurs when musicians — or, music industry people in general — are out late at night on the job, and the ones closest to us are left to wait at home for our return. This traveler’s ballad beautifully captures the relationship challenges created by distance and an unpredictable lifestyle, courtesy of Rob Volansky’s rugged, yet sensitive vocal. This is complemented well by Chris D’Antonio’s emotive guitar work and trumpet accents from Swift Technique’s Greg Rosen.
If you’ve ever been at the gig around closing time, longing to get home to your better half, this song should be on your night driving playlist. Here it is below, via Spotify.
