Sunday night’s atmosphere was a festive one at Helping Our Music Evolve in East Nashville. That was the scene of the one-year anniversary of Sad Girl Night, a monthly celebration of the power and vulnerability of female artists.

Sad Girl Music founder and alt-pop artist Elisabeth Beckwitt was joined by an eclectic, hand-picked lineup of some of Nashville’s most prominent up-and-coming female performers.

These performers included the energetic and expressive Catalina, whose genre-bending versatility translated brilliantly to the stage from her latest album, Multifacética. Keeping things lively after her was Bee Taylor, whose natural intensity and lyrical honesty gave the evening a rock and roll edge that was continued by the hard-hitting Laurel & the Love-In.

From there, things turned over to the pop realm, with a performance from Beckwitt that felt celebratory and empowering, as the singer showcased her newest single, “Lovely,” alongside tunes from her recent Indigo EP. Closing the evening was LA-born, Nashville-based electronic pop artist and producer MOLLĒ, whose stories of self-made perseverance as a woman in the music industry brought the evening’s mission full circle.
