On any night in Nashville, you can find premier musicianship in any corner of the city.
Last Tuesday night, we found it along Cannery Row.
The It City, a multi-genre collective of some of Nashville’s most prolific session musicians, hosted their first Make It Look Easy showcase at Mercy Lounge. The band — whose lively and entertaining show fuses elements of rock, soul, funk, and pop — headlined a lineup of professional musicians and singers who have performed alongside the likes of Kelly Clarkson, Drew Holcomb, Hank Williams, Jr., Kris Kristofferson, David Nail, A Thousand Horses, Johnny Lang, Jake Owen, and many of music’s most prominent acts.
Included in that lineup were a quartet of some of the most powerful up-and-coming voices in Nashville’s pop and R&B landscape today, including Berry, Robin Raynelle, Katie Colosimo, and Stephcynie.
A word on Stephcynie’s set: the conceptual storytelling and overall production were particularly well-crafted, giving her performance a big-stage feel. Add the Houston native’s powerhouse voice and larger-than-life presence to the mix, and it makes for a vivid performance art experience from a superstar in the making.
