LISTEN: Foo Fighter Chris Shiflett Gets Nostalgic on ‘Born & Raised’

You may know Chris Shiflett for his work as the lead guitarist of modern rock legends and first-ballot Rock & Roll Hall of Famers, Foo Fighters.

What you should also know is that Shiflett is building an impressive solo catalog of his own. He just added to it on Friday with his latest single, “Born & Raised.”

Combining heartland storytelling with lush country instrumentation and West Coast shine, “Born & Raised” is a nostalgic ode to the California native’s roots; one which captures the allure of finding one’s way back home after a long time on the road. The single was brought to fruition in the studio with the help of producer Vance Powell and an all-star cast of musicians, including Jack Lawrence (The Raconteurs, Jack White, Wanda Jackson), drummer Julian Doro (Eagles of Death Metal, The Whigs), keyboardist Mike Webb, and steel guitarist Luke Schneider.

“My trip out to Nashville in March of 2021 was my first time recording any solo material since I made Hard Lessons,” Shiflett said. “I hadn’t done much traveling post-COVID lockdown, so I was a little nervous heading out there to work with a producer and roomful of musicians I didn’t really know. In true Nashville style, we made our introductions and got right down to work, hammering out the basic tracks in a few hours. Vance was great and made me feel right at home, and the group of players he put together were on point.”
