It’s Not a Jamboree Without Carter Lansing

Carter Lansing’s contributions to the Valley’s music scene are plentiful. In addition to his role as singer-songwriter of country rock outfit Acoustic Kitty Project, Carter is one of the region’s most prominent music volunteers and minds. We are honored to have him join us for the First Annual Lehigh Valley Underground Winter Jamboree, taking place Friday, February 10 at American Spirits Roadhouse.

Before that all goes down, Carter was kind enough to answer a few questions.

PHOTOS: Pearly Baker’s Open Mic, Hosted by Carter Lansing

I love open mics. I love the fact that they give you the opportunity to hear a small sample size of multiple artists in the same night. I also appreciate what the open mic represents: newcomers and music scene veterans, coming together to hone their craft.

Everyone out here on the music scene (and, well, any music scene ever) is a creator. We want to find ways to share our creations with the world around us, even if it’s just a few people at a time. Whether sharing originals or rather interesting covers, musicians need an audience. The open mic gives them that, often in an intimate setting.

This was the case at Pearly Baker’s in Easton on Thursday night, as a showcase hosted by Acoustic Kitty Project’s Carter Lansing yielded some relaxing acoustic tunes in a variety of styles to start the weekend early. Check out a few black-and-white shots (and forgive all the shadows — the dim lighting adds to the ambiance at Pearly’s).

Can’t-Miss Shows of the Week: Oct. 3-9

Although October started as a cold, rainy mess, we hope that your weekend wasn’t a washout!

LVU Super Saturday: Acoustic Kitty Project and Sugar Hill Jazz House

Our Super Saturday at Lehigh Valley Underground has been eventful so far. It started (after retrieving my camera from my parents’ house) with Acoustic Kitty Project, the latest band to play as part of WSCI Radio’s Summer Concert Series. Carter Lansing and company performed for over an hour, playing songs from their current release, “‘Shine,” as well as yet-to-be-released material. Lansing also took some time out for a quick interview, soon to air on WSCIRadio.com.

A little while later, I sprinted — in my car, not on foot — over to Allentown for the grand opening and ribbon cutting of Sugar Hill Jazz House. Located at 39 S. Ninth St., Sugar Hill Jazz House features staff and performers in authentic 1920s attire and a stellar barbecue menu from Chef Jay King, who owns the venue with wife Mary Shearin and Mark Smith. The grand opening received support from the Lehigh Valley Chamber of Commerce, the Hamilton District Main Street Program, and local politicians including Sen. Pat Browne, Rep. Peter Schweyer, and Allentown Mayor Ed Pawlowski.

We’re not finished yet! In a little while, we’ll be at the Ice House in Bethlehem for Tape Swap Radio’s latest installment of the IceHouse Tonight series. Tonight’s show begins at 8, and of course, you can expect updates here and via Facebook Live.

PHOTOS: Roi & the Secret People at the Tally Ho Tavern (WSCI Summer Concert Series)

Our day-long Roi & the Secret People party continued with a special kickoff show at Bethlehem’s Tally Ho Tavern Saturday night, as part of the WSCI Summer Concert Series.

The evening was opened by Carter Lansing, frontman of outlaw country group Acoustic Kitty Project, who performed selections off of the band’s album, “Shine,” alongside newer songs.

Then, it was time to RSP, who rocked the Tally Ho with tunes from its two albums, “Dog St.” and “Phoenix,” as well as select tracks from frontman Mike Roi’s older efforts.

The WSCI Summer Concert series continues through August with local, original talent. The lineup is as follows. For tickets and more information, follow this link.
