PHOTOS: Andrew Mark Schaffer and Copper Fields at The Originals Music Series

The guitars were on full display once again at The Originals Music Series this week, with singer-songwriter Andrew Mark Schaffer opening for soul/folk trio Copper Fields.

Schaffer’s intricate guitar work — enhanced by a loop station that allowed him to nail impressive solos over rhythm parts — combined with his improvisational ability on yet-to-be-completed song ideas to captivate those in attendance at Chicago Restaurant’s Club Gravity.

Copper Fields then took the stage, with the Emmaus trio blending crisp vocal harmonies over styles from acoustic rock to bluegrass. The group showed why they are one of the most exciting up-and-coming acts in the Valley right now, as their distinct mellow sound and catchy hooks cause first-time listeners to take immediate notice.

Fall Preview: Fests and Fundraisers Keep the Scene Moving

There is a myth that exists in the Lehigh Valley, and it goes a little something like this: the music scene dries up when summer ends. As the sun begins to set earlier in the day, so, too, does it set on the active season in our arts and culture community.

That notion could not be further from the truth.

Between festivals, showcases, and our typical haunts, our dance card is already filling up for the fall, and will likely keep us out of the pumpkin patches and absorbing the sights and sounds as the autumn chill permeates the air. Here’s what’s on our radar.

PHOTOS: The Originals Music Series Returns With Carefree Constant and Julius

The official start of fall is less than a week away, and it’s a good time to make a new run. For The Originals Music Series, they did so by inviting Carefree Constant and Julius out for the first show of the season.

Carefree Constant took the stage first. The Whitehall-based foursome have put a progressive spin on the reggae rock genre, which lends a heavier edge to the band’s sounds and provides good contrast and variety from the group’s more laid back tunes.

Next up was Julius, who always brings a fun energy to the Club Gravity stage. The singer-songwriter reliably rocked setlist staples like “Sunlit Day” and “Better Life,” while mixing in new and unreleased tracks.

Want more rock? Starting Thursday, September 29, The Originals Music Series will return to a weekly schedule at Club Gravity inside Chicago Restaurant. Keep tabs on the Series’ Facebook page for details!
