Review: Church Girls – Breaking Bones

Artist: Church Girls
Song: Hidalgo
Released: August 2017
Genre: Indie rock

First, let’s just get right out in front of it: that bassline is phenomenal! It starts “Breaking Bones,” the newest single from Philly’s Church Girls, off with a funky flair.

Yet, there’s much more to this one than a killer groove. The second single from the band’s upcoming album, “Hidalgo,” still drips with the band’s signature indie rock charm, while its well-crafted, accessible chorus makes it a great starting point for new fans of the band.

Perhaps what we love most about “Breaking Bones,” however, is when things slow down for the tune’s extra-dreamy bridge, which ventures into the world of psychedelia before giving way to an instrumental outro that becomes a vibrant wall of sound.

Listen to “Breaking Bones” below, and remember to check in with Church Girls on Friday, Sept. 15 when “Hidalgo” drops.
