Review: ‘Jutaun Sessions Live’ a Must-Listen

Artist: Jutaun
Album: Jutaun Sessions Live
Released: February 2, 2018
Genre: Alternative Motown

We’ve had the pleasure of seeing and hearing Jutaun over the past couple of Musikfests, to the point where their ‘Fest appearances have become a can’t-miss event for those of us in LVU land. Their sound – a stirring blend of classic R&B vocals, alt rock-inspired guitars, and overarching pop sensibility – is not easily replicated, and that’s what makes them so exciting.

Indeed, those reasons are why the band’s new “Jutaun Sessions Live” EP is a must-listen. The band’s influences on the five-track offering are many, from the subtle (you’ll hear a bit of a country twang on “Who Am I”), to the front-and-center (“Let It Die” is heavy on the blues). Through it all, you’re sure to hear dynamic instrumentals, paired with the signature vocal harmonies that put the group on-par with the Motown legends of yesterday.

Jutaun’s crowning achievement here is “Go Slow,” a rich, powerful 8-minute ballad featuring an absolutely breathtaking falsetto and a guitar solo that shows shades of Prince.

If you want to hear Jutaun live and feel up for a road trip, they’ll be performing alongside Kingfisher at Milkboy in Philly next Friday, February 16. For now, get a taste of what’s in store below!
