Following up on the strength of his 2018 debut — the five-track indie pop effort, “Whoa” — Neil Grover is back with perhaps his most raw and honest release to date.

The new single, “Give It to Me Straight,” was released on the singer’s birthday, and is a stripped-down piano ballad about battling internal demons that seem difficult to overcome. There’s something relatable for everyone here; whether one’s demons involve loss, relationship woes, addiction, depression, or any of life’s other common (or uncommon) struggles, Grover’s analysis of these situations offers that, at times, we all need the support and honesty of someone we love to help us through.

All of this is supported by Grover’s soulful vocal, which emotionally delivers, at times recalling the renowned baritone of modern acts like Hozier in its inflection and purpose.
