REVIEW: Leah Voysey’s Intoxicating New ‘Poison’

Sometimes, we know we’re making the wrong decision. Sometimes, we don’t care.

Those situations now have a soundtrack, thanks to “Poison,” the debut single from Leah Voysey.

The moody pop single tells the story of a young woman who has gone to the bar for “just one drink,” but who soon finds herself entranced by a new attraction who appears as a cure to loneliness, if only for the night. The stark, somber opening verse seems to foreshadow that this encounter will almost certainly be a mistake, while an upward dynamic shift into the refrain suggests that our protagonist has decided to dive right in anyway, lest she end up alone for the night.
