On ‘Whiskey Lips,’ Neil Grover Feels the Push and Pull of Temptation

Whiskey and bad relationships have something in common: even when we know better than to indulge, they sometimes draw us in regardless.

Neil Grover explores this metaphor on “Whiskey Lips,” a piano-driven ballad about the complicated situations love brings into our lives. In this story, the soulful singer-songwriter finds himself drawn in by the temptation of a flame who has burned him before. Despite knowing this, Grover expresses his willingness to dive in anyway, utilizing his rich falsetto to add sensuality to a situation that, like one too many shots of whiskey, may only lead to regret in the morning.
