FEATURED: Pottersfield Says Goodbye with “Dear Diamonds”

In this final letter to her wedding ring, Amy Benedict of Pottersfield lets go of abuse and sets herself free, while also setting herself as an example for others to find power through the pain.

Dear Diamonds,” co-written by Ian Osborne, is a poppy, future bass/EDM power ballad and anthem that acts almost as a pirate’s map to treasure. Only in this version, its purpose is to lose gold and diamonds, rather than find them.

“The song was written about my own story, to bring awareness to domestic abuse for others, and to give hope and courage to those who want to get out,” Amy explains. “’Dear Diamonds’ [was] written as a letter to my wedding ring, given to me by my abusive ex-husband. It’s a reflection on the abuse that he put me through, even when I was blind to it, and finishes with me getting rid of the ring and setting myself free.“

The song’s lyrics recite the symptoms so many experience when living inside a toxic or abusive dynamic. Pottersfield champions perseverance with self-love, -patience, and -forgiveness, woven into the song’s resolve.

“I don’t hate myself for the things that I couldn’t see, ‘cuz love is blind.“

-Dear Diamonds, Pottersfield

This attitude is on-brand for Pottersfield, who aims to create a musical safe space and beacon for those who may feel alone.

“The music of Pottersfield is ultimately for the unknown, the transients, and the people who don’t feel like they belong,” Amy said. “It’s for the moments you just want to dance and escape, and for the moments you need music you can deeply resonate with.”

Even the name follows this theme: a “potter’s field” is a burial ground for unknown, unclaimed, or indigent people.

And, just to add a little more flare and bling to this treasure map of a song, Amy funded part of the production cost for “Dear Diamonds” by pawning the very ring it’s written about.
