LISTEN: van$ Shines a Light with ‘SOLAR POWER’

Let’s keep these globe-spanning tracks from international artists coming!

Born in Singapore and raised in the UK, van$ is a 24-year old university grad who just released his debut single, “SOLAR POWER.” For those of us in the U.S., the alternative track is reminiscent of the early 2010s rise of bands like The Naked and Famous, twenty one pilots, and MGMT, while serving as our introduction to an artist who strives to connect to anyone “experiencing the feeling of living in two different worlds.”

“The real you, versus the corporate you,” he elaborates. “The hometown you, versus the you that’s moved away, The you in school, versus the you listening to music alone at home.”

“SOLAR POWER” was written at a crossroads in van$’ life — fresh off of university graduation and a rough breakup, the single was written, produced, and recorded entirely by van$ to give people hope in times of depression and anxiety.

“This song’s message is about light in the darkest of places — both physical and mental,” he said. “In these spaces, we are truly tested, but sometimes, a little light can show you the way out of the darkest caves and the deepest seas. It’s about hope — for me and for you.”

We can all get behind that, can’t we?
