Start Your Week with Something to Make You ‘Dance’

I was six years old in 1993, when Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers premiered to the world. Like many kids of my generation, I was captivated by this show. In particular, I found myself drawn toward one Ranger in particular. That would be Zack Taylor, the Black Power Ranger portrayed by Walter Emanuel Jones.

He was cool, confident, a hit with the ladies, and always seemed to be having a good time. He could also dance waaay better than I could. He was my favorite Ranger from the beginning, and somebody who I wanted to grow up to be just like. So, needless to say, I was devastated when Party City was fresh out of Black Ranger costumes around Halloween 1994. (I ended up being Billy, the Blue Ranger, as a consolation.)

Even after Walter left the show, I continued to follow his career. I was stoked when I found out that he would be playing lead cadet Harlan Band in the Nickelodeon sci-fi show, Space Cases, which ran for two seasons in the mid-to-late 90s.

(I’ve been re-watching Space Cases recently on YouTube, by the way. I have to say… it’s criminally underrated. The writing is solid, the performances are strong, and the characters and their relationships are presented with depth and substance. Season 1’s finale, “On the Road to Find Out,” is excellent television, regardless of your age.)

ANYWAY! You didn’t come here to learn about my TV watching habits. You came to hear a song to make you dance, and my favorite Ranger is here to deliver the goods!

Under his new project TRE EMANUEL, Walter Emanuel Jones released “Dance” as a YouTube exclusive over the weekend. The feel-good electropop single is slickly-produced and features a memorable hook, delivering on its promise to get listeners up and moving to the beat.

“Often when I go to Comic-Cons or I’m out in the world, one of the things I really enjoy is getting people to dance. It doesn’t matter if you can dance, if you feel like you can dance, or you do dance well. I want you to dance with me,” Jones said. “This song was inspired by that; by my love of dance, by my love of watching people dance, and having people dance with me. I believe that when you dance, it makes you happy.”

A full lyric video — including the above quote and the meaning behind Jones’ TRE EMANUEL artist name — is out now. We’ve included it for you below. It’s time to get up and move, y’all!
