Around the Underground: News from Orgs Making a Splash
Looking around, it’s nice to see that we aren’t alone on this journey. We roll pretty deep with some incredible community partners, and it’s time to show them some love.
So, every once in a while, we’ll take a trip Around the Underground to see what our friends and colleagues are cooking up — and present ways for you to get involved!
Performer submissions for Music on the Move Studios’ upcoming October showcase — taking place October 10 at 3rd & Lindsley — are open now. The all-female showcase is hosted by Erin McLendon & The HellCats, and gives female (or female-identifying) performers and entrepreneurs an opportunity to connect during an evening of live entertainment and community!
Submissions close Friday, July 14. Hurry up and apply before it’s too late!
The Heal Hop Movement announced its first-ever Citywide Cypher tournament, taking place throughout middle Tennessee this summer. The tournament is an opportunity for underrecognized hip hop talent to perform in a freestyle setting, with winners to be crowned in the following categories: top male emcee, top female emcee, top producer, and top crew. Qualifying rounds begin in July and August, with finals to take place in September.
Ether Nashville celebrated the life and impact of Nashville Civil Rights Leader J.C. Napier with a parade and block party. The community event — presented alongside South Nashville Sanctuary — featured speakers, performances, live music, and more in an effort to inspire learners, leaders, and high achievers.
