Today, we complete the trifecta of local artists opening Acoustic Storytellers Night at American Spirits Roadhouse with Zed D’Lance, a five-piece rock band that is relatively new, but already quite accomplished.
As the weather turned colder, and the last gasp of Indian Summer gave way to a premature winter storm on Saturday night, a sizable mass of people gathered inside the ArtsQuest Center for an acoustic performance with country rocker Scott Marshall.
After a wild and mostly wonderful October, I looked to Saturday as a big day. Through weddings, birthdays, and the Cubs’ epic World Series championship run, October was a very busy month that required a lot of weekend participation in my personal life.
I looked to Saturday, however, as a chance to get back to basics. I knew about plenty of great things happening in the Valley, and my goal was to get out on the scene. I did just that — even if I got off to a slow start.

Jordyn Kenzie is a performer with a blindingly bright future. At just 16, she has opened for national touring acts and has captured the Discover Lehigh Valley Discovered Artist of the Year Award at the Lehigh Valley Music Awards.
Jordyn took a few minutes out to chat with us about those experiences, and to provide a brief glimpse of what the future holds.

The guitars were on full display once again at The Originals Music Series this week, with singer-songwriter Andrew Mark Schaffer opening for soul/folk trio Copper Fields.
Schaffer’s intricate guitar work — enhanced by a loop station that allowed him to nail impressive solos over rhythm parts — combined with his improvisational ability on yet-to-be-completed song ideas to captivate those in attendance at Chicago Restaurant’s Club Gravity.
Copper Fields then took the stage, with the Emmaus trio blending crisp vocal harmonies over styles from acoustic rock to bluegrass. The group showed why they are one of the most exciting up-and-coming acts in the Valley right now, as their distinct mellow sound and catchy hooks cause first-time listeners to take immediate notice.
It was a fairly stripped-down evening of music at The Originals Music Series, with two acts that let their soulful vocals and expert guitar playing speak volumes.

I love open mics. I love the fact that they give you the opportunity to hear a small sample size of multiple artists in the same night. I also appreciate what the open mic represents: newcomers and music scene veterans, coming together to hone their craft.
Everyone out here on the music scene (and, well, any music scene ever) is a creator. We want to find ways to share our creations with the world around us, even if it’s just a few people at a time. Whether sharing originals or rather interesting covers, musicians need an audience. The open mic gives them that, often in an intimate setting.
This was the case at Pearly Baker’s in Easton on Thursday night, as a showcase hosted by Acoustic Kitty Project’s Carter Lansing yielded some relaxing acoustic tunes in a variety of styles to start the weekend early.
