We’ve had the opportunity to encounter the Easton/Allentown School of Rock performers in the past, and we can tell you: these kids are a joy to watch. There’s a lot of young talent within their ranks.
Bethlehem power trio The Tank (LISTEN) has a new album coming out, and you’ll have an opportunity to get your hands on it and hear some tracks live this Thursday at The Originals Music Series.
Reading-based power pop band The Undercoats are buzzing about their debut release, “Save the Worm.” In fact, the quintet is so excited that they’re giving fans an inside look at the creative process.

Elwood James Band comes to us from nearby Bucks County with “Forgetting the Sound,” a five-track EP that showcases a little bit of everything the band does best.
Whether you’re a fan of blues or rock and roll, there’s something for you here. The opening track – and album’s namesake – kicks things off with crisp harmonies and a British Invasion vibe, which are married together with modern pop rock sensibilities. Another straightforward rocker, the mid-tempo “Soulful Look,” is driven forth by keys and crisp vocal harmonies.
As mentioned, Elwood James Band isn’t afraid to get bluesy on “Forgetting the Sound.” “Riding the Storm” features a rhythm section that slightly resembles Ted Nugent’s “Stranglehold,” while being driven forward by down and dirty guitars and a striking keyboard melody. Album closer “Black Cherry” also features drums and bass that set a bluesy tone, before becoming more progressive with an intense instrumental break about halfway through the tune.
With “Forgetting the Sound,” Elwood James Band has a collection of songs that has the potential to appeal to our Valley’s masses. For sure, these tracks would hold up well alongside SteelStacks’ usual Saturday night lineup.

After I had my socks thoroughly rocked by Acoustic Kitty Project and Roi & the Secret People at Rivals, and after Lisa had a great time capturing the Allentown Freak Out Fringe Festival, I popped over to Pearly Baker’s, where Acoustic Bite Trio was set to play some”acoustified” favorites.
I was only able to stay for a little while (unfortunately, I had to wake up before 7 a.m. on Sunday), but while I was there, the trio featuring Shawn Cav (bass), Scott Harrington (guitar), and Dave Deubler (drums) ran through a jukebox-worth of hits, both classic and contemporary. It was a nice cap to a fantastic evening of live music.
