NashLive! x Music City Movement Present: Edgar Derby, Aaron Friend & The Enemies, and Leoncarlo at The Cobra Nashville

On Tuesday, September 27, we’ll head back to The Cobra Nashville to bring you a diversified lineup featuring the talents of Nashville’s Aaron Friend & The Enemies, in between touring artists Edgar Derby and Leoncarlo.

Edgar Derby has been making music for over two decades. He was born and raised in El Paso, Texas, and is currently based in Denton, Texas. Derby’s music fuses acoustic, lyric-based folk with a unique songwriting style and energetic performances. He treats a live audience to a multi-instrumental show that includes vocals, guitars, a resonator, and harmonicas. Edgar Derby’s sophomore LP, Dancing in Death/The Place Where the River Makes a Sound, was released February 13, 2021.

Urgent, uplifting, and wildly anthemic, the music of Aaron Friend & The Enemies radiates a brilliant energy that boldly amplifies its emotional power. With captivating vocals and soul-baring lyrics, Nashville-based singer, songwriter, and producer Aaron Friend created his latest body of work after a period of personal upheaval and self-discovery, channeling his deepest pain and uncertainty into songs that question, confront, and endlessly illuminate. The result: an essential soundtrack to self-reflection, raw catharsis, and life-changing transformation.

Leoncarlo is a musician, violinist, and educator based in North Texas. His career took shape while attending the University of North Texas for violin, as Leoncarlo would begin to travel nationwide, performing and speaking at reputable events such as SXSW Festival in Texas, Telluride Bluegrass Festival in Colorado, TEDx Conference in Fargo, and more. He has had the honor of collaboration with esteemed musical acts like Polyphonic Spree, Alejandro Escovedo, and Melanie Safka, to name a few. Off stage, Leoncarlo offers various audio production work, as well as music lessons at Soundbox MusicWorks (formerly known as Bonduris School of Music) in Denton, TX.

Tickets for this show are just $10, and you must be 21 or older to enter. Doors are at 8 p.m., with music promptly kicking off at 8:30 p.m.

NashLive! Presents: Borrowed Sparks and Uplander at The Cobra Nashville

NashLive! will be back at The Cobra Nashville on Saturday, May 21 with Borrowed Sparks and Uplander.

What happens when you combine the raw heartfelt honesty of a singer-songwriter with the simmer angst of punk rock? You get Borrowed Sparks (Mike Bay), who has spent years drawing from these two contrasting styles to distill a batch of songs that feel like quiet confessions being shouted from the back of a dive bar.

Uplander, formed by songwriter Riley Haynie, pulls from shoegaze, post-punk, goth, and new wave. The result?Atmospherically heavy songs that maintain an edge of pop sensibility and appeal.

The best part? This is another free one in The Cobra’s front room! Music kicks off at 7:30 p.m., and you must be 21 or older to enter!

NashLive! and Pop Rocks! present: Jon Pattie, DISCOFOX, and Ahli

On Saturday, November 20, NashLive! will team with Pop Rocks! to showcase more of Nashville’s best talent at The Cobra (2511 Gallatin Ave., Nashville). That night, we’ll welcome Pop Rocks! founder Jon Pattie alongside pop-soul band DISCOFOX and pop/R&B songwriter Ahli.

Teacher by day, passionate singer-songwriter by night. These are just a few ways to describe indie singer-songwriter Jon Pattie. Starting his music career off as the lead guitarist in a wide variety of bands, Jon ventured into his solo career while pursuing a degree in chemical engineering. Since, Jon has released a number of projects, including his most recent EP, Reflections, Vol. II. Pattie uses the EP to touch on his battles with depression and within difficult relationships, while motivating his listeners to always follow their dreams.

DISCOFOX is a Nashville-based pop/soul band created by New York City Broadway actor Daniel Sovich. These catchy melodies and powerhouse vocals sewn together with the rhythms of Nashville’s top musicians provide for an in-your-face, high-energy evening. DISCOFOX is an all around experience. Come witness The Fox.

Ahli is gender-neutral songwriter and producer with a passion for all things pop and R&B. With a background in commercial music and a college degree in production, Ahli’s music is both raw and fine-tuned. Their song-writing influences include Troye Sivan and Maggie Rodgers with production style similar to Carley Rae Jepsen. Getting their start in small-town, rural New Jersey dive bars, they’ve now performed at music festivals across the United States including, Musicfest, Cape May Music Festival, Port St. Lucie Music Festival, Treasure Coast Music Festival and most recently, the International Stay the F*ck Home Fest most with Sonicbids, which had more than 1,000 people tune in from all over the United States and Europe.

Live from the 615: Casey Jo & The Friday Night Dads and TV Saints

On Saturday, May 1, Live from the 615 will welcome Casey Jo & The Friday Night Dads. The four-piece will return to the Helping Our Music Evolve stage after joining us in January, fresh off the heels of their 2020 album, Twin Mind. If their previous performance is any indication, you can expect a generous helping of raw, Americana-infused rock and roll from this versatile quartet.

Joining these Live from the 615 veterans — and making their first appearance on our stage — will be TV Saints. The Nashville-based, New Jersey-bred rock outfit has been hard at work on new tunes throughout the pandemic, combining influences like Queens of the Stone Age, The Strokes, and The Replacements to craft their new single, “Easy,” out now. “Easy” precedes TV Saints’ sophomore full-length album, which is currently in production for an expected summertime release.
