PHOTOS: Deprived and September Silence at The Originals Music Series

Don’t let the band names fool you — rock was abundant on Thursday night at The Originals Music Series, and it was anything but silent.

We started our evening with Deprived, who delivered on all things heavy music from metal, to punk, to even some grunge (nice Nirvana cover, guys). It was a great start to the night, setting the tone for what was to come.

A bit later, it was time for September Silence to retake the stage at Chicago Restaurant’s Club Gravity. Earlier this year, the band debuted at this very venue, and they returned sounding tight and got plenty of heads moving to the music.

A Celebration So Hardcore (and more!)

We truly hit the Underground in a big way on Friday night, heading to St. Bernard’s in South Bethlehem for the Double Decker/Square of Opposition Records Anniversary Prefest.

Friday night’s preview of this weekend’s Double Decker/Square of Opposition Anniversary Fest featured eight bands from various genres, including punk, hardcore, post-hardcore, and indie. The lineup included (in order of appearance): Yankee Bluff, Spill, Casual, Florence & Libby, Pain Strikes, Raw, Kids, and Carpenter Ant. The all-ages show also served as a fundraiser for Valley Youth House, which provides shelter for vulnerable, abused, and homeless youth.

Indie music supporters kept St.Bernard’s in Bethlehem packed all night long.

Throughout the night, there was a palpable sense of community throughout the packed room. Music fans from all walks of life came through to support a worthy cause and kick off a weekend of celebration. Bands stayed to support other bands long after their sets were complete, and all those in attendance seemed to hang on every impassioned riff and vocal, regardless of who was performing.

That sense of community is sure to build on Saturday and Sunday. The festival officially kicks off at 3:30 p.m. today, moving to Allentown’s Merchant Square Mall for the remainder of the weekend with 27 performers and more than 20 vendors in all. Saturday night headliners include Iron Chic and Snowing, while Sunday’s lineup features Slingshot Dakota, Plow United, and Pissed Jeans.

Tickets begin at $20 for each individual day, with weekend packages available. Get yours at this link.

Review: Alpha Zero Three – Ghost

Artist: Alpha Zero Three
Track: Ghost (LISTEN)
Released: June 30, 2016
Genre: Hard Rock

Since making their live debut at The Originals Music Series in May, the guys in Alpha Zero Three have been hard at work in the studio. That much is apparent on the band’s blistering new track, “Ghost.”

Starting off with an impressive metal riff from guitarist Jeff Smith, the pace of “Ghost” stays fast and never relents. Backed by driving rhythms, frontman Monty Leach delivers a powerful vocal that resides somewhere between the passion of Chris Cornell and the melody of Dave Grohl and company.

They’re only a few songs in, and already, Alpha Zero Three has proven themselves a versatile and multi-talented rock band. We can’t wait to see where the road leads next on their rock journey.

PHOTOS: 3 Pill Morning at The Gin Mill & Grille

Who says Tuesday isn’t a great night to rock?

Folks at Northampton’s Gin Mill & Grille last night were ready to hear the melodic hard rock sounds of 3 Pill Morning. The melodic Minneapolis four-piece is currently on tour, and their Lehigh Valley stop was nothing short of electrifying.

The night began with an opening acoustic set from singer-songwriter Steve McDaniel. McDaniel performed a set of mostly covers, peppering in a few originals that stood tall among classics from artists like Johnny Cash and more.

Then, it was time for 3 Pill Morning to take the stage. The band’s high-octane performance resonated well with those in attendance as they performed a mix of selections from their debut, “Black Tie Love Affair,” and their upcoming release, “Never Look Back.”
