UMC20: Weird, Wild, and Wonderful (Jan. 11, 2022)

Full disclosure: I try to avoid describing “this week’s UMC20” as having “something for everyone,” because truthfully, they all do. Every last one of ’em, to the best of our ability, will bring the variety, as well as the heat. Pointing it out seems cliche, at this point.

However… this week’s edition is particularly interesting, because of some of the genre-bending adventures you’ll be taking. Right in the middle of the playlist, we have some avant garde selections that are sure to intrigue.

With that said, we’ve got something for you, no matter your flavor. Go get yourself some!

UMC20: Welcome to 2022 (Jan. 4, 2022)

Happy New Year! 2022 is only a few days old, and we are here to celebrate the fresh new possibilities before us with a new edition of our UMC20 playlist!

It’s been a few weeks since we’ve delivered an all-new UMC20. We gave you an updated Holiday Hits playlist a couple weeks back, followed by the 2021 edition of our UMC50 year-end compilation.

Now that we’ve celebrated the holidays, it’s about time we start telling the story of 2022. NashLive! shows will certainly be a part of that story, and we have a few upcoming lineups represented below, alongside exciting new submissions and selections. Let’s waste no time digging in!

UMC50: 50 Can’t Miss Songs from 2021

UMC family, we love you. We’re thankful to have made it another year together, through the inherent challenges of the times. And, even though this has been an especially wacky holiday season, we want to make sure we leave you with one more parting gift before we say hello to new possibilities in 2022.

That parting gift is this year’s UMC50 playlist.

We scoured our UMC20 Best Of playlists — and our other UMC20 playlists, for months where there wasn’t a “Best Of” (2021 was weird, y’all) — for 50 tracks that we feel paint a picture of the musical year that was. You’ll hear variety. You’ll hear some things you don’t expect. You’ll see familiar names on the list, as well as first-time inclusions in our now-annual tradition.

It was important to us to get this to you. We hope you enjoy it as you reflect on 2021, and celebrate what is to come in the year ahead.

Songs You Should Hear: The All-Jenna Edition (Dec. 17, 2021)

It’s been a wild holiday season around these parts, as I alluded in this week’s UMC20 post. Somehow, December has been the busiest month of the year for the second year in a row. That’s a great thing!

It also means that I needed some help getting you some Songs You Should Hear this week. Fortunately, UMC Contributor Jenna Rose has had plenty ready to go in the queue. So many, in fact, that we have enough to feature her picks exclusively for the next couple weeks, if we so choose.

That’s what we’re choosing to do this week. Come get some…

UMC20: We Found Some Gems (Dec. 14ish, 2021)

Thanks again for your patience as we put this one together. There are a TON of fun projects coming through these days. Not to mention, we’re gearing up to make New Year’s Eve one to remember over at The East Room. The workload is real!

Nonetheless, it’s come time to deliver this week’s jams to you. Certainly, the artists featured on that show linked above are part of our plans this week. We also took some time to crawl through the submission forms and even our email inbox to find some multi-genre gold.

Share in our riches and check out this week’s UMC20 below!

Songs You Should Hear: Don’t ‘Sleep’ Too Long; STAV G’s Lucid Dream

This week’s Songs You Should Hear showcases the broad scope of the music out there for all of us — from the more traditional, to the completely unorthodox.

We love it when we get to paint from a broad palette like this — it keeps things interesting, and certainly, it gives all of our ears something new to appreciate — no matter your flavor.

Let’s start this weekend right!

UMC20: No Hangover Here (Nov. 2, 2021)

How do you follow up one of the greatest months in UMC history? By ensuring that this month looks just as bright!

There’s no Halloween hangover. There’s no stopping this train following a 7-event month, where we also continued to Keep the Music Playing here in the digital space. It starts here and now, with the first UMC20 of November.

We had some submissions to catch up on (and no doubt, more where those came from). We also allotted some slots on this week’s playlist to the upcoming NashLive! shows that you’ll soon enjoy here in Nashville. There’s pop, rock, soul, Americana, and even a few songs that will get you in your feels.

Let’s mix it all into the gumbo pot and let it rip!

UMC20: The Best of October 2021

We’ve had a full month of new UMC20 playlists for the first time since May. You know what that means!

OK, in case you don’t know what that means: the last Tuesday of the month serves as a month-in-review for our weekly Spotify playlist, featuring the songs that you, the listener, seemed to enjoy the most throughout the month. This month, we did mix it up a bit — specifically, there are a couple of songs on here that didn’t appear on a previous edition of UMC20 this month. However, the artists behind them did, and we just felt like keeping you on your toes with a couple surprises this time around!

Let’s get to it, shall we? Here’s the Best of October!

We’ve found ourselves at The Cobra quite a bit lately. First, it was for this rock show. Then, it was for A Night of Nashville Hip Hop last Saturday.

On Wednesday night, it was time for the Americana genre to take a turn — with a showcase of artists from Nashville and beyond!
