The sun is shining here in Nashville. Temps are on the rise. The long (yet short), arduous month of February is over. It appears as though spring is well on its way.
You know what else is always well on its way? Brand new music from independent artists near and far. And let us tell ya, we’ve got some choice cuts for you on this week’s UMC20. We rock hard, we vibe out, we get a little unorthodox, and then we bring it on home with some Americana.
This week’s playlist is what the wild, wonderful world of independent music is all about. Get acquainted below!

Given the time of year, we shouldn’t be surprised that we’ve received a bunch of Valentine’s Day — and anti-Valentine’s Day — submissions recently.
You’ll find a lot of those below. You’ll also find a nice multi-genre cross-section of where things stand in the world of independent music, as we journey from hip hop, to soul, to Americana, to rock throughout the course of this 20-song volume.
This is, without question, one of those “something for everyone” weeks of UMC20. Get after it!

If you like alternative — whether that’s rock or pop — get in here.
That’s the flavor of a lot of our recent submissions, so we’re going to give these tunes some shine! We also found a few out in the world that we’re digging, so we threw those into the mix, too.
It’s all here, and it’s all for you. Enjoy!

January may have felt like it took forever. At least, that’s the sentiment among a lot of the folks in our circle.
The good news? It’s over now, and we’re on to February, which is 1) the shortest month on the calendar and 2) the last full month of winter. We can already feel life returning to the Earth and musical landscape here in Nashville. We can’t wait to see and hear what happens when 2022 truly kicks into high gear.
So, let’s kick it up a notch. We had some new submissions to consider, and we’re using some real estate here to shine a light on this month’s upcoming NashLive! shows. Through it all, we’ve certainly got some fresh finds, and they’re here for you below!

Before Thursday night, it had been two long years since Music on the Move Studios hosted a full-band showcase in Nashville.

It feels good to be alive today!
On this day six years ago, in the small, plucky former industrial city of Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, a regional music blog was born. It was called Lehigh Valley Underground, and it would go on to cover some cool festivals, win some local awards, and become a pretty legit community resource.
Then, toward the end of 2018, LVU changed its name, moved to Nashville, and became the Underground Music Collective you know and love today. The rest, as they say, is independent music history.
And, because we find ourselves in a celebratory mood on this sixth anniversary of Launch Day, it’s only fitting that we have a brand new UMC20 playlist for you. We’ve combed the depths of our submission form and inboxes, and we also decided to show some love to the artists on next Thursday’s Music on the Move showcase at Analog Nashville, just for fun.

Imagination is the key to today’s Songs You Should Hear — whether that means re-imagining that which has already been given life, or imagining a new, harmonious direction for varying musical styles.
Jenna and I teamed up again to bring these your way. Let’s get to it!
Hear What You Should
Created and hosted by rising Americana/country artist Erin McLendon, Music on the Move (formerly Women on Fire) serves as a pivotal platform for local female musicians and entrepreneurs to share their talents.
