NashLive! Presents: Borrowed Sparks and Uplander at The Cobra Nashville

NashLive! will be back at The Cobra Nashville on Saturday, May 21 with Borrowed Sparks and Uplander.

What happens when you combine the raw heartfelt honesty of a singer-songwriter with the simmer angst of punk rock? You get Borrowed Sparks (Mike Bay), who has spent years drawing from these two contrasting styles to distill a batch of songs that feel like quiet confessions being shouted from the back of a dive bar.

Uplander, formed by songwriter Riley Haynie, pulls from shoegaze, post-punk, goth, and new wave. The result?Atmospherically heavy songs that maintain an edge of pop sensibility and appeal.

The best part? This is another free one in The Cobra’s front room! Music kicks off at 7:30 p.m., and you must be 21 or older to enter!

NEW SHOW ALERT: The Z-Man Experience, Borrowed Sparks, and Uplander at The Cobra on May 21

While you wait for those, we’re excited to tell you that we’ll be back there on Saturday, May 21 with The Z-Man Experience, Borrowed Sparks, and Uplander.

PREMIERE: Borrowed Sparks Set to Release ‘Patron Saint,’ Live from The Smoakstack

Since the latter stages of 2021, Borrowed Sparks — the project of Americana-punk singer-songwriter Mike Bay — has been releasing live cuts recorded at Nashville-based studio, The Smoakstack.

The final installment drops this Friday, and it’s a truly gripping rendition of one of the band’s most poignant tunes.

NashLive! Pop-Up: Borrowed Sparks and Riley Haynie

We’ve always got new tricks up our sleeves at NashLive!. Next Saturday, February 12, we’re giving you a night of rock and roll on us.

We’re excited to team with The Cobra Nashville (2511 Gallatin Ave.) on our first ever free NashLive! Pop-Up. We’ll be in the venue’s front bar, where we’ll bring you the musical stylings of Borrowed Sparks and Riley Haynie on the house.

We once described the music of Borrowed Sparks as “a prime cut of American rock and roll… calling to mind the maverick spirit of the legendary Tom Petty, layered with a simmering angst sure to appeal to fans of artists ranging from Social Distortion to The Gaslight Anthem.” We certainly still feel that way, and are excited to team up with Mike Bay and co. as they show you what they’ve been working on — including acoustic renditions of the band’s signature tracks, which you can find over on Spotify as they’re released.

Mike brought his good friend Riley Haynie into the fold. The Montana native — who released his debut album, Years, in 2021 — brings hardcore and heavy metal roots to his brand of punk-infused rock and roll. He also just released a fun cover of Cher’s 1998 single, “Believe,” which you can find over here.

This is usually where we tell you about ticket price information, but again, this show is free! Come to Cobra Nashville at 8 p.m. with a valid photo ID (21+), and come hang with the NashLive! community.
