PHOTOS: Music on the Move Showcase at 3rd & Lindsley

Last week on The Quinn Spinn, we welcomed Music on the Move Studios co-founder, musician, and ECM member Erin McLendon to discuss the growth and evolution of the Music on the Move Showcase, which was set for Tuesday, October 10 at Nashville’s 3rd & Lindsley.

As always, this semi-annual celebration of community among Nashville’s female musicians and entrepreneurs delivered the goods!

Backed by Erin McLendon & The HellCats, the showcase’s all-female lineup featured a diverse set of performances from pop-rock songwriter Kaylee Federmann, Florida-born country artist Sarah Morey, soul and R&B songstress Amber Sweeney, and the punk-influenced Lunchbox Rachel. Plus, those in attendance on this night to remember got to shop at woman-owned pop-up boutiques, including Rock’n Boho and No Sass Creations.

We had the privilege to attend and capture photos throughout the night, which you’ll find below. Take a look through our lens as we congratulate everyone on the Music on the Move Studios team!

How To Get Involved in Your Local Music Scene, Pt. 3: Getting Ready to Make Your Pitch

Every musician has a story to tell, and the opportunity to communicate that story to the masses in the digital age. There are countless media outlets – from independent blogs and podcasts, all the way up to nationally- and globally-recognized publications – that could serve as a launching pad to build awareness for your artistry. Even so, most artists – especially those toward the beginning of their creative journeys – don’t know where to begin.

That’s where I come in! As the founder of UMC and the architect of our Perfect Your Pitch course, I have received thousands upon thousands of music submissions over the years. With that, I have teamed up with Music on the Move Studios, compiling my near-decade of experience as an independent media creator to offer you some tips on how to make sure your pitch stands out above the rest.

Becoming a Better Singer: Do You Have Enough Breath?

As we pointed out earlier this month, our friends at Music on the Move Studios are running a Back to School special on lessons. When you buy one month, you get the second month 50% off.

If you’re looking for a taste of what you’ll learn about being a better musician, pop over to Music on the Move’s blog. Just yesterday, co-founder and voice teacher Erin McLendon posted a valuable video on the importance of breath to ensure proper singing technique.

In this post, Erin explains how to create a system to ensure that you’re getting enough breath, so that you’re nailing every note and phrase.

What is Women’s Equality Day & Why it Matters

According to NPR, only 12.7 percent of songwriters and 2.8 percent of music producers were female in 2021.

This alarming statistic shows how far the music industry has to go to achieve true equality.

Today is Women’s Equality Day, and our good friend Erin McLendon (co-founder of Music on the Move Studios) shares why it is important for those in the music industry to acknowledge the continued battle for equal rights — for reasons that stretch far beyond music.

Get Erin’s thoughts on the Music on the Move blog, and don’t forget to get tickets to Music on the Move’s next showcase — featuring an all-female, all-LGBTQ+ lineup — at The East Room on August 31.

Music Minute Monday: String Wrapping Dos and Don’ts

Every Monday, our partners at Music on the Move Studios take to their own blog for Music Minute Monday — a chance to share knowledge about proper technique, music business, and even instrument care.

Yesterday, Music on the Move co-founder Caitie Thompson (pictured above, right) — a multi-instrumentalist and instructor in her own right — took to the blog to share tips on how to tune your guitar — and to make sure it stays in tune.

Head over to get Caitie’s dos and don’ts!

SAVE THE DATE: Music on the Move Showcase Rescheduled for Aug. 31 at The East Room

Last month, Music on the Move Studios was set to bring a Pride-themed LGBTQ showcase to BentoLiving Chestnut Hill, but then… COVID happened.
