This year, LVU is seeing contributions from members of our music community who are out on the scene at Musikfest to catch the action. One of those people, WLVU Station Manager John Paul DeBard, caught up with Philadelphia indie rockers June Divided (who we saw at another festival earlier this year) and shared his thoughts on their set.
The Groove Merchants have been expanding their reach and gaining regional notoriety. Earlier this year, they performed on Radio 104.5’s “Live at 5” program, and have been wowing crowds steadily throughout 2017.
Sunday, August 20 might just be their biggest opportunity yet.

Our first encounter with Above the Mendoza was on Record Store Day at Spin Me Round, when they performed among a host of alternative and punk bands who brought high energy to the Jersey side of the Valley all afternoon and evening.
That energy continues on “A Shoulder to Lean On, But Not a Crutch” – 21 minutes of pop punk goodness from this rising Philly-area band.
Philadelphia’s Civil Youth has been generating buzz in advance of their new album, “Conversations,” which will hit on Friday, May 19. The guys will be celebrating the release of the new record at the Theatre of the Living Arts the following night alongside Sonnder, The GoAround, and The Moxy.
With so much excitement in the air, we took a few minutes to ask the guys a few questions.
Since before LVU’s inception, we’ve followed the career of The Groove Merchants. A chance encounter with this big-sounding blues band about a month before Launch Day has made us fans ever since.
This Friday, a lot more people will have the opportunity to share in the funky five-piece’s soulful sounds.
What do you do when you find yourself out of town on a Saturday night, but you still want to cover a show?
I had that question answered for me this week. I knew that I was going to be in the Philly area this weekend for some personal life stuff. As I looked through my Facebook events, I noticed that our friends Roi and the Secret People had an upcoming show at The Grape Room in Manayunk.
From there, I knew I had plans.
