Exactly one year after welcoming Another Day Dawns, Doubting Thoma$, The Cherrybombs, and Social Call to rock the Plaza Tropical stage at Musikfest, the Greater Lehigh Valley Music Association and Lehigh Valley Underground will team up once again.

Last night, Musikfest was rocked by four local bands as part of the Lehigh Valley Music Awards Rock Showcase, sponsored by Lehigh Valley Underground.

Local rockers Another Day Dawns, Doubting Thoma$, The Cherrybombs, and Social Call packed Musikfest’s Plaza Tropical tent with friends and fans all night long. The evening featured a mix of originals and covers, and was hosted onstage by LVU Founder Gerard Longo.

Here are some photos — more are coming with a full recap a bit later. Enjoy!

Blues and Acoustic Tunes for Sunday Afternoon

After a raucous first Saturday night of Musikfest — one during which Facebook Live just wouldn’t work, probably due to the mass of people using bandwidth in such a small area — we hit the scene this afternoon for a couple of early shows before coming back to prepare for tonight’s Lehigh Valley Music Awards Rock Showcase, sponsored by Lehigh Valley Underground.

We arrived to Plaza Tropical in time for Miller and the Other Sinners, a blues/soul outfit from Buffalo, New York. Fronted by David Michael Miller, the Sinners played a noteworthy set full of blazing instrumental solos and extended jams — and, as luck would have it, Facebook Live was back up and running, if you want an example.

After the Sinners finished up at Plaza Tropical, we started to head back, but not before stopping at Red Stag Pub Liederplatz at the Sun Inn Courtyard to catch the end of a set from Reading-based folk band, Grexin’. The band was playing an unplugged set as part of the stage’s Acoustic Roadshow, and their crisp vocal harmonies and down-home rhythms made for a pleasant listen.

We’ll head out a bit later, of course, for the LVMAs Rock Showcase, featuring Another Day Dawns, Doubting Thoma$, The Cherrybombs, and Social Call. The fun starts at 8. See you there!

LVU Announces Partnership with the Greater Lehigh Valley Music Association

Today, Lehigh Valley Underground is thrilled to announce an official partnership with the Greater Lehigh Valley Music Association (GLVMA).

The GLVMA is a non-profit 501(c)3 arts organization which, according to its official Facebook page, “believes that artistic expression and the creative process are positive and desirable contributions to our diverse culture.” The organization is responsible for many local programs and initiatives, including the annual Lehigh Valley Music Awards, as well as a scholarship program for young students in the arts.

“The Greater Lehigh Valley Music Association and its volunteers continue to work for the betterment of the entire music community in eastern Pennsylvania,” said Gerard Longo, Founder and Editor-in-Chief of Lehigh Valley Underground. “This mission is similar to that of Lehigh Valley Underground, and I am ecstatic that our organizations will work together to create more opportunities for all local artists.”

The first instance of this will be at the Lehigh Valley Music Awards Rock Showcase, occurring at Musikfest’s Plaza Tropical stage on Sunday, August 7 from 8-11 p.m. Lehigh Valley Underground is an official media sponsor of the event, which will showcase bands including Social Call, The Cherrybombs, Doubting Thoma$, and Another Day Dawns.

Lehigh Valley Underground also plans to participate as a media sponsor in the GLVMA’s Third Annual Arts on the Move event, taking place at South Bethlehem’s Touchstone Theatre on Saturday, November 12 at 6 p.m. The event will feature local artists including Triple G, Project 3², Jordyn Kenzie, and Erin Kelly, as well as an auction of unique musical instruments to benefit the GLVMA’s scholarship fund.
