LVU Names The Valley Ledger as The Quinn Spinn’s Feature Sponsor

The Valley Ledger is joining The Quinn Spinn’s live party this fall.

The online news organization, which covers happenings throughout the Lehigh Valley, is joining forces once again with Lehigh Valley Underground as the feature sponsor of our Official Podcast. This isn’t The Valley Ledger’s first foray into Podcast Land with Lehigh Valley Underground and The Quinn Spinn; the Ledger was the official sponsor of QSLehighValley earlier this year, a local “Spinn” on the show, which has now been combined with its parent show into one, two-hour long Facebook Live broadcast every week.

“The Valley Ledger has been a valued partner of Lehigh Valley Underground from the very beginning,” said Gerard Longo, Founder and Editor-in-Chief of Lehigh Valley Underground. “Joe Thompson and his team are the first folks I thought of when looking for an organization to sponsor this new, live era of The Quinn Spinn.”

The Quinn Spinn, sponsored by The Valley Ledger, premieres live on the podcast’s official Facebook page on Mon., Sept. 19 from 6-8 p.m., with replays to be made available on SoundCloud, iTunes, and LehighValleyUnderground.com.

Sunday Thought Series: Six Months

I find it hard to believe that tomorrow marks six months since the official launch of Lehigh Valley Underground. I say that, not necessarily because time has flown, but because doing this has since become so ingrained in my daily life, that I could swear I’ve been doing it for years.

Those six months started humbly enough. I was just starting to become immersed in the local music scene in our region, and I remember actively having to go out and poke around for something – anything – that would qualify as local, music-related, and newsworthy. As time went on – namely, after one particular piece in March that blew this thing wide open – I found myself developing relationships with the folks who make this scene what it is. I found myself actively on the scene, sometimes multiple nights a week, and loving every minute of it.

Since then, we’ve covered festivals. We’ve developed relationships with publications like The Valley Ledger. We’ve covered major shows at the Sands Bethlehem Event Center and Musikfest Café, while never losing our Underground roots. We’ve reviewed albums, delivered news, recorded podcasts, and have done it all with the intention of #BuildingBetter across our region for local musicians.

There’s no way of telling what the next six months will hold. However, I believe (and know on good authority, in some cases) that we’re built for big things leading up to our first birthday. Lehigh Valley Underground will continue to add an important voice – your voice – to the musical landscape, and we will create more opportunities than ever for folks like us who refuse to give up on their dreams and passions.

Thank you for joining the ride so far. It’s only just beginning.

PHOTOS: Delbert McClinton at the Musikfest Cafe (RiverJazz)

On Wednesday night, we were back at the Musikfest Cafe on the third floor of the ArtsQuest Center at SteelStacks. This time, it was to experience RiverJazz through the sounds of multi-time Grammy winner and six-decade music veteran, Delbert McClinton.

McClinton, who was supported by an outstanding opening set from singer-songwriter Brian Dunne, took the stage with his band to play their patented uplifting blues rock in front of a packed house.

Sunday Thought Series: The #UndergroundSwell Grows

In three months…

…and we’re just getting warmed up!

When I first hatched the idea for Lehigh Valley Underground, I did it because I believed in the talent and passion of our music community. I knew that our original music scene was on the verge of exploding, and it just needed some unifying forces to make the people aware of everything happening in their backyards.

We have a lot of work still to do. However, I must say that, in three months, I’m impressed with and inspired by how far we’ve come together.

Through Lehigh Valley Underground, artists have become aware of opportunities to perform and have their music heard by local and worldwide audiences. Lesser-known venues have received some much-needed and deserved spotlight. There was always a strong arts community here in the Lehigh Valley, but I would like to think that LVU has made it just a little bit closer-knit. So far, so good – we’re adhering to our mission, and we have big ideas to make this resource even better in the months to come.

Of course, it all starts with the beginning of another week. A new episode of The Quinn Spinn will hit sometime tomorrow and you’ll hear about the week’s Can’t-Miss Shows. In those two instances alone, you’re guaranteed to learn something you didn’t know before.

This isn’t any ordinary week, though. Allentown JazzFest kicks off Friday night with Al Chez & the Brothers of Funk. As an official media partner of the festival, you can be sure that we’ll be at that show and many others over the course of ten days.

Thank you for joining us as our #UndergroundSwell continues to grow. Stick with us, because the best is yet to come!
