You Could Be Applying to Play Musikfest 2017 Right Now…

Earlier, we named Musikfest as the best festival emerging from a tough, competitive field in 2016.

We didn’t even realize how timely that post would be, because, as it turns out, the good folks at ArtsQuest are considering talent for the 2017 Musikfest lineup right now.

Ninjapedia: What Does ‘Support Your Local Music Scene’ Mean to You?

Welcome to the world of Ninja.

Being heavily involved in the local music scene for more 11 years in multiple capacities, I have always wanted to know what makes a musician “tick.”  I am always engaging musicians in conversations to get their feedback and thoughts on things important to them.

Because I always receive great feedback during these conversations, I decided to start posting questions on my Facebook page to engage musicians from all over the world, in addition to those at the local level. This has been a valuable tool for not just me, but for those musicians, as well.

This is why Ninjapedia was brought to Lehigh Valley Underground: to educate our music scene based on input from our peers. I hope you enjoy the answers to these questions as much as I do.

Today’s question is:

What does “support your local music scene” mean to you?

LVU Names The Valley Ledger as The Quinn Spinn’s Feature Sponsor

The Valley Ledger is joining The Quinn Spinn’s live party this fall.

The online news organization, which covers happenings throughout the Lehigh Valley, is joining forces once again with Lehigh Valley Underground as the feature sponsor of our Official Podcast. This isn’t The Valley Ledger’s first foray into Podcast Land with Lehigh Valley Underground and The Quinn Spinn; the Ledger was the official sponsor of QSLehighValley earlier this year, a local “Spinn” on the show, which has now been combined with its parent show into one, two-hour long Facebook Live broadcast every week.

“The Valley Ledger has been a valued partner of Lehigh Valley Underground from the very beginning,” said Gerard Longo, Founder and Editor-in-Chief of Lehigh Valley Underground. “Joe Thompson and his team are the first folks I thought of when looking for an organization to sponsor this new, live era of The Quinn Spinn.”

The Quinn Spinn, sponsored by The Valley Ledger, premieres live on the podcast’s official Facebook page on Mon., Sept. 19 from 6-8 p.m., with replays to be made available on SoundCloud, iTunes, and LehighValleyUnderground.com.

The Quinn Spinn is Going (Facebook) Live This Fall!

After exclusively pre-recording since the show’s launch in 2013, The Quinn Spinn, the Official Podcast of Lehigh Valley Underground, is going live this fall!

Starting with the season premiere on September 19, each new recording of The Quinn Spinn will be streamed via Facebook Live on Mondays from 6-8 p.m. For two hours, viewers will get a behind-the-scenes look at the show as it happens, adding an interactive element that will allow for live feedback and requests from listeners.

As always, The Quinn Spinn will feature interviews, topical conversation and, of course, independent music from the Lehigh Valley and around the world. The two-hour time slot will allow The Quinn Spinn to house all of its music under one roof – the first hour of each new episode will be dedicated to local artists, while the second hour will feature those from anywhere in the world.

Upon completion of each new episode of The Quinn Spinn, replays will be made available on SoundCloud, iTunes, and LehighValleyUnderground.com.

For official updates on the coming season of The Quinn Spinn, and to catch the action as it happens this fall, “Like” The Quinn Spinn’s official Facebook page.

I’m going to be in Easton all day, and you’re coming with me!

We’ll be capturing the essence of Easton Heritage Day 2016 here and on social media, and we don’t want you to miss a thing! So, check in with the site every so often throughout the day, and stay tuned to LVU on Facebook (live video, perhaps?), Twitter, and Instagram for updates, performances, and more.

And, if you happen to see a particularly buff gentleman walking around in a Quinn Spinn t-shirt with a camera, feel free to say hi!

Contributors Wanted!

Are you in tune with the original music scene? Do you like to write? Do you have opinions? Do you like to write about those opinions?

If you said “yes” to any of the above, you should become a contributor to Lehigh Valley Underground!

We are looking to assemble a team of contributors, and we would love to hear why you should be on it. You can contribute as much as you are able (at least once per month), and you’ll be a published author on an indie music blog that reaches hundreds of area music influencers per week.

All you have to do is meet the following requirements, and we’ll be in touch!

  • Ability to write in a clear, engaging and entertaining voice about the original music scene in eastern Pennsylvania.
  • Excellent written communication skills – correct spelling, grammar and punctuation are a must!
  • A working knowledge of the original music scene, here in the Lehigh Valley and beyond.
  • Ability to share your work on social platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc.)
  • Photography/videography/social marketing skills are a plus!

If you’re interested, please send a cover letter, resume, three writing samples and two story ideas to us at lehighvalleyunderground@gmail.com. This will be an unpaid gig at first – however, we are optimistic that it won’t be forever!

What are you waiting for? #GoUnderground with us!

LVU Wants to Know: What’s the Most Disappointing Show You’ve Attended?

Yesterday, Lehigh Valley Underground and several other music news outlets reported that Puddle of Mudd’s Jan. 30 show at Adelphia Music Hall in Marietta, OH was cut short by a bizarre tirade from the band’s frontman, Wes Scantlin.

Unfortunately for Scantlin, Puddle of Mudd and the band’s fans, this is not an isolated incident. Scantlin is known for his tirades and legal troubles, with the most recent ones noted in this article from Blabbermouth. We do hope that the frontman can get things together, but with so many disappointing shows to his band’s credit, it got us thinking…

What is the most disappointing show you’ve ever been to? Let us know in the comments.

The Quinn Spinn Announces Return Week Musical Lineup

With Launch Day of Lehigh Valley Underground in full swing, that means we are just two weeks away from the beginning of the next chapter of The Quinn Spinn, the Official Podcast of Lehigh Valley Underground.

The Quinn Spinn will feature two brand new, hour-long indie music podcasts every week on SoundCloud, iTunes, and here on Lehigh Valley Underground beginning February 1. The “worldwide” show, premiering every Monday, will feature artists, interviews and topics from anywhere.

Episode #1 of the new Quinn Spinn (Feb. 1) will feature Good Friend of the Show DJ Pearlman of Long Island-based hard rock band REVEL 9. In addition, other artists featured on the return episode will include:

The Everglows (via Factory Fast Records)
Second Player Score
Jupiter in Velvet
Curtis Pacheco (via Factory Fast Records)
In This Mode (w/ Meter Bridge)

On Thursdays, get ready for QSLehighValley, which will put the emphasis on artists from eastern Pennsylvania and the surrounding area. QSLehighValley looks to support our local music scene, while giving artists nearby to us the opportunity to be heard in front of an unlimited audience.

The first episode of QSLehighValley will go live on Thurs., Feb. 4 and feature The Revere, a rock band out of nearby Doylestown whom we accepted via our ongoing ReverbNation submission campaign. Their great music will be accompanied by that of other regional artists, including:

The Band of Rivals
John Scargall
Meghan Cary
Duke Maroon

Whitney Peyton
