PHOTOS: A Night to Remember: A Belated New Year’s Experience

Through a complete reschedule, last-minute lineup changes, the threat of snow and, of course, the lingering spectre of the ‘rona, we did it. We officially-unofficially welcomed 2022 at The East Room, courtesy of NashLive!

TONIGHT: A Belated New Year’s Experience at The East Room

Our entire focus turns to The East Room tonight. That is the site of NashLive!’s A Night to Remember: A Belated New Year’s Experience, sponsored by Commons Cannabis and hosted by Music City Movement.

We have a few reminders and housekeeping items to go over, as we set sail for adventure and make this one happen, better late than never!

UMC20: The Best of January 2022

It’s the last Tuesday of the first month of 2022, which means it’s time to bring you the month’s hottest fire.

January brought plenty of fun to us — and not just on Sunday Funday. The year’s opening statement was a strong one, and proved that people are coming to play in 2022 — and hopefully, more and more artists will find themselves able to come out and play live, as long as ‘rona doesn’t get in the way.

We’ll remember January 2022 as an exciting start to the year. Hear why we feel that way below!

UMC20: UMC Birthday Edition (Jan. 18, 2022)

It feels good to be alive today!

On this day six years ago, in the small, plucky former industrial city of Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, a regional music blog was born. It was called Lehigh Valley Underground, and it would go on to cover some cool festivals, win some local awards, and become a pretty legit community resource.

Then, toward the end of 2018, LVU changed its name, moved to Nashville, and became the Underground Music Collective you know and love today. The rest, as they say, is independent music history.

And, because we find ourselves in a celebratory mood on this sixth anniversary of Launch Day, it’s only fitting that we have a brand new UMC20 playlist for you. We’ve combed the depths of our submission form and inboxes, and we also decided to show some love to the artists on next Thursday’s Music on the Move showcase at Analog Nashville, just for fun.

UMC20: Weird, Wild, and Wonderful (Jan. 11, 2022)

Full disclosure: I try to avoid describing “this week’s UMC20” as having “something for everyone,” because truthfully, they all do. Every last one of ’em, to the best of our ability, will bring the variety, as well as the heat. Pointing it out seems cliche, at this point.

However… this week’s edition is particularly interesting, because of some of the genre-bending adventures you’ll be taking. Right in the middle of the playlist, we have some avant garde selections that are sure to intrigue.

With that said, we’ve got something for you, no matter your flavor. Go get yourself some!

Songs You Should Hear: Cameron Floyd Finds a New Sound; Leilani Kilgore Breaks Your Heart

To say we’re pumped about a fresh new year of music and possibilities is an understatement. We’re already seeing the submission form fill up with new reasons for excitement in 2022, and we can’t wait to keep digging in!

With that said, we have some songs from later in 2021 that still need to receive their proper UMC love. So, Jenna and I have teamed up once again to present some of those as…

UMC50: 50 Can’t Miss Songs from 2021

UMC family, we love you. We’re thankful to have made it another year together, through the inherent challenges of the times. And, even though this has been an especially wacky holiday season, we want to make sure we leave you with one more parting gift before we say hello to new possibilities in 2022.

That parting gift is this year’s UMC50 playlist.

We scoured our UMC20 Best Of playlists — and our other UMC20 playlists, for months where there wasn’t a “Best Of” (2021 was weird, y’all) — for 50 tracks that we feel paint a picture of the musical year that was. You’ll hear variety. You’ll hear some things you don’t expect. You’ll see familiar names on the list, as well as first-time inclusions in our now-annual tradition.

It was important to us to get this to you. We hope you enjoy it as you reflect on 2021, and celebrate what is to come in the year ahead.

UMC20: We Found Some Gems (Dec. 14ish, 2021)

Thanks again for your patience as we put this one together. There are a TON of fun projects coming through these days. Not to mention, we’re gearing up to make New Year’s Eve one to remember over at The East Room. The workload is real!

Nonetheless, it’s come time to deliver this week’s jams to you. Certainly, the artists featured on that show linked above are part of our plans this week. We also took some time to crawl through the submission forms and even our email inbox to find some multi-genre gold.

Share in our riches and check out this week’s UMC20 below!
