Finding Support from the Indie Music Media

Musicians: whether it feels this way or not, opportunities to be seen and heard are all around you. I would know – I happen to run an independent music publicationa podcast, and an event production company. So, when Luke Holden and I divided up the articles for Muze’s “10 People Musicians Need on Their Side” series, I laid claim to the “Media Supporter” archetype right away.

What I didn’t want to do, though, is just have this be an op-ed about all of the things I look for when considering whether to feature an artist or their music. So, I received an assist from a couple of my peers in the industry for their takes on what they’re looking for, where they find new music, and other tips and tricks that will help you identify the right opportunities.

Ryan Kinder’s passions extend far beyond music. His foundation, Kinder’s Kids, provides toys to children dealing with the aftermath of natural disasters. He’s also currently training for the Iron Man world championships in Kona, HI to honor a friend who has passed away from cancer.

Through it all, Ryan finds time to dedicate to his art. His album, Room to Dream, will be released at the end of July, and it’s packed with stories from his time navigating the ups and downs of the music industry.

Put it all together, and we have plenty to discuss on today’s episode of The Quinn Spinn!

Hard Work and Worldly Perspective: The Southern Gothic’s Connor Christian

The Southern Gothic released their six-song EP, Burnin’ Moonlight, this past Friday, December 4. Before the release, we sat down with frontman Connor Christian to learn about the record, his favorite moments, and the difference between crafting a release in the studio, as opposed to on the road.

We go much deeper than that. We discuss Connor’s well-traveled youth, which he spent in locations all over the world. In addition, we hear the band’s story of consistent hard work that took The Southern Gothic from an Atlanta-area cover band, to a versatile juggernaut that has opened for the likes of Willie Nelson, ZZ Top, and many more!
