As a chill creeps into the air this week and autumn finally takes hold, things take a charitable turn in the Valley this week. Perhaps it’s a preview of the holiday season to come, but it seems that many of our local musicians are in a giving mood.

The Team Carly Rocks Foundation, inspired by young Lehigh Valley swimmer and diabetes advocate Carly Lenett, is hosting its Team Carly Rocks for a Cure benefit concert on Sunday, October 29 — and they’re employing the talent of some of the Valley’s most noteworthy musicians.
A rainy Monday was no match for the mighty Scott Marshall & Marshall’s Highway, who kicked off the Americaplatz stage on Day 4 of Musikfest.
The local country rockstar and his band of brothers brought a soulful, spirited performance to Musikfest rooted in the band’s four tenets: faith, hope, music, and love. Ever the storyteller, Marshall shared the tales behind the tunes, drawing in and engaging the audience through popular originals like “‘Shine” and “Hope on the Cross.”
It was my pleasure to spend the evening on rain-soaked ground with the other people who braved the elements and capture the moments. Hope you enjoy!

Allentown will once again hold its Fourth of July Weekend celebration at J. Birney Crum Stadium, and will enlist the help of some of the region’s most popular artists for the festivities.
A beautiful day in South Bethlehem, just to the west of the Bethlehem Steel Blast Furnaces, provided a picture perfect atmosphere for Rock & Breakaway from Pediatric Cancer, a benefit organized at The Steel Pub by local singer-songwriter Scott Marshall in conjunction with Lehigh Valley Underground, the Greater Lehigh Valley Music Association, and Rocking the Valley.
New Vitae Wellness and Recovery, a local organization providing comprehensive residential and outpatient behavioral health services to adults, is teaming up with Cedar Crest College to host Rally in the Valley, a day to support those currently living a lifestyle of recovery.
In February, local musicians banded together to throw a fundraiser for local singer-songwriter Scott Marshall, who had recently embarked on the road to recovery from a battle with cancer.
In June, Marshall will once again return the favor to his local community.
Lehigh Valley-based singer-songwriter Scott Marshall and his band, Marshall’s Highway, gave another rousing and inspiring performance on opening night at the Musikfest Cafe presented by Yuengling.
Every chance I get, I try to see this authentic and heartfelt musician and his accomplished band. They continue to connect with audiences with their eclectic mix of country, rock, blues, and soul. The lyrics are meaningful and spiritual, and I always seem to lose at least one of my false eyelashes due to the tears that well up during a few of Marshall’s original songs, like Sweet Surrender, Make Time and Hope on the Cross.
Photos do not do justice to the power and emotion of this band; all I can advise is that you go see them for yourself if you haven’t already. And for those of you who have seen Scott Marshall and Marshall’s Highway, then you know exactly what I’m talking about.

Admittedly, I wanted to take a few days off before hitting the scene during Musikfest. After all, there’s going to be so much music around these parts for the next ten days, that we’re going to have our hands full covering all of it.
