THIS MONDAY: UnderDogs Across Borders Reaches New Orleans!

Before NOLA MusiCon officially kicks off this Tuesday, we invite you to get a head start on the festivities — whether you’re in New Orleans, or anywhere in the world with internet!

Immediately following our Have You Met…? interview broadcast, we’ll stay put at Cafe Istanbul (2372 St. Claude Ave., New Orleans) to offer you a special UnderDogs Across Borders lineup, featuring artists from across the Southeastern U.S. Several UnderDogs are making the trip to perform alongside rising stars on the New Orleans local scene, offering an exciting preview of the magic to come throughout the week.

The event is open to the public for a $10 suggested donation, which will directly support our ongoing UnderDogs Across Borders campaign. And, if you can’t attend in person, we have good news: this one will be broadcast on YouTube, as well! Funds from this campaign help us connect our creative community to amazing opportunities across the musical landscape — just like those we’ve helped create this year in the Big Easy!

As for the lineup? We think you’ll like it! It features performances from (in order of appearance):

Jazzy the Uncontrolled Goddess
Ja Fearce & Azure Skyz
Yonna Jones
DJX & DJ Agie Gee
Kelsey Muse
Kyle Alexander

UMC20: The Musical Harvest Continues (Oct. 11, 2022)

With every week that goes by, the independent musicians of Earth continue bringing the HEAT.

It means we’ll never run out of choice cuts to feature on UMC20 (and elsewhere within this wild and wacky UMC ecosystem). And, while that lends us to make tough calls as to what to include, and where to slot each submission onto the playlist, rest assured that we’d rather have too much than too little.

If you’re a musician reading this, the best way to get on our radar is to submit your tunes here. And, while you head over to the forms and tell us everything we need to know about your music, enjoy this week’s edition of UMC20 for inspiration!

UMC20: Upcoming Performances, International Jams (April 12, 2022)

It’s a busy week around these parts. NashLive! has a couple shows — both in-person and virtual — and that’s always exciting. It also gives us plenty of tunes for UMC20.

That’s just part of the story, of course. We have artists spanning the globe featured this week, from as far away as New Zealand, as well as plenty right here at home. The genre spectrum is pretty well covered. All in all, this volume of UMC20 is surely memorable, and bound to have something you’ll want to replay over and over again.

Let’s get to it, then? Cool!

UMC20: The Best of November 2021

Welp… we’ve almost made it to the end of another year together. And today, we’ve made it to the end of another month.

So, let’s celebrate as we typically do around here — by recapping some of the best and brightest tracks the past 30 days have had to offer. It’s tough to narrow this down every month, but November presented a particular challenge. There were so many unique and interesting cuts, but only room for 20. Difficult choices were made.

See (and hear) if you enjoy the choices we made below. We think you will!

Songs You Should Hear: Don’t ‘Sleep’ Too Long; STAV G’s Lucid Dream

This week’s Songs You Should Hear showcases the broad scope of the music out there for all of us — from the more traditional, to the completely unorthodox.

We love it when we get to paint from a broad palette like this — it keeps things interesting, and certainly, it gives all of our ears something new to appreciate — no matter your flavor.

Let’s start this weekend right!

UMC20: Halfway Through September (Sept. 15, 2020)

To give you a little bit of inside baseball, one of the pleasant consequences of curating a weekly playlist is that it gives us 20 automatic slots to feature artists, week in and week out. When your inbox looks like ours does these days — still, and probably forever, catching up from being out of town — that’s nothing short of a blessing to get this music featured.
