Valentine’s Day is fast approaching, and it’s as good a time as any to be on the lookout for red flags.

However, we’re not focusing on red flags in a romantic partner. Instead, let’s focus on what traits to look for — and perhaps avoid — in a musical or business collaborator.

Booking a gig is always an exciting moment. The anticipation of an upcoming live performance is a huge motivator to finish songs and prepare to perform. Thereโ€™s nothing more exhilarating than the in-the-moment feeling of playing live music. 

Now that venues are reopened after being paralyzed by the 2020 pandemic, promoters and managers are eager to work with talent thatโ€™s prepared to perform. Thatโ€™s why you need a plan to book your next (or first) gig. After all, itโ€™s your chance to be heard by fresh ears in a live environment.

Participants Revealed for Feb. 15 ‘Succeeding as a Black Entrepreneur in the Music Industry’ Virtual Panel

Last week, we announced that we’ll be hosting a free virtual panel in commemoration of Black History Month, titled Succeeding as a Black Entrepreneur in the Music Industry, on Wednesday, February 15 at 6 p.m. CT. This special event will give multi-disciplinary music industry veterans a chance to share their experiences navigating the industry as a Black creative, the challenges theyโ€™ve encountered and overcome, and the lessons they have learned along the way.

UMC20: (Mostly) New Faces Week (Jan. 24, 2023)

Why Risk Taking is Essential to Your Music Career

Taking risks is the only way to grow.

Weโ€™ve all heard that advice and perhaps weโ€™ve even egged our fellow musicians and creatives on in such a way, as theyโ€™ve danced with their fears of the unknown.

However, in times of big decisions โ€“ of the choice between taking the leap, or playing it safe โ€“ we often find this advice most difficult to take ourselves.

Hereโ€™s why, even in the face of fear, risk taking not only worthwhile, but necessary to our creative journeys.
